Slam poetry is a form of performance poetry that combines the elements of performance, writing, competition, and audience participation. Culturally, slam poetry is held in a venue and judged by the audience. However, due to this pandemic, where everything should be done online, EMCD held an online-based competition for slam poetry.

The competition consists of only one level. The best 3 contestants will be pronounced as the winners. Each school is permitted to send a maximum of 3 teams.

1. Maximum participants are 21 teams (each school can only send 3 teams).

2. Each team consists of 1-3 people.

3. Each team must choose one of the three available topics and make a performance video based on the chosen topic.

4. The poem is to be written in English.

5. The poets (or ‘performers’) should write their poems.

6. The poets MUST perform their original poems, or they will be disqualified.

7. No foul language, vulgarity or slander is allowed. The use of such language will result in disqualification.

8. No property, music, or costume is allowed.

9. Performers are allowed to sing, clap, hum, or make noise (or ‘sounds’) with their mouths (beatbox-style) or other body parts.

10. Performers are not allowed to read or bring notes while performing.

11. The video must be:

    ● In 3-4 minutes length (if the performance is less than 3 minutes or more than 4 minutes 10 seconds, 5 points will be deducted from the total score of each judge.

    ● At least 480p in resolution.

    ● Recorded in one take.

    ● The poem must be in PDF, typed in Times New Roman font, 12 font size, and 1.5 line spacing.

    ● All videos are to be submitted by 29 th January 2022 at 23.59 WIB. Late submission will result in a 5 points deduction from the total score.

12. Grading criteria:

    Poem (50 points)

        ● Poetic language and fluency - 20 points

        ● Idea and theme - 20 points

        ● Tone and mood - 10 point

    Performance (50 points)

        ● Body/facial expression - 20 points

        ● Vocal strength/ emotion - 20 points

        ● Fluency - 10 point
